How Mediation Services handles information connected with MediateWMI.org and direct communications.
Effective date: August 20, 2026
MediateWMI.org is an informational website. Sensitive mediation details should not be sent by ordinary email. Donations are handled by Stripe, and mediation inquiries are handled through a separate secure intake service. Those providers apply their own privacy practices.
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
Center for Dispute Resolution, operating as Mediation Services (“Mediation Services,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), provides community dispute-resolution, restorative-practice, and related educational services. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information in connection with MediateWMI.org (the “Site”).
This policy covers the Site and communications you send directly to us. It does not replace the privacy notices of third-party services linked from the Site, including Stripe and the Michigan community dispute-resolution online intake system.
2. Information we may receive
Information you choose to provide
The Site does not require a public user account. If you contact us by email or telephone, register for a training or event through a linked service, volunteer, or otherwise communicate with us, we may receive information such as your name, contact details, organization, the subject of your request, and the content you choose to provide.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, the Site and its hosting systems may automatically receive limited technical information, such as an Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser or device type, referring page, requested page, and date and time of access. The Site may also use cookies or similar technology that is necessary for security, performance, accessibility, or basic WordPress functionality. We use this information to operate, protect, troubleshoot, and improve the Site.
Information handled by linked services
When you follow a link to another service, that service may collect information directly from you. In particular:
- Stripe processes one-time and recurring donations. Mediation Services does not receive your full payment-card number. Stripe’s own privacy notice and terms govern its processing.
- The Michigan community dispute-resolution online intake system receives information used to begin or route a mediation inquiry. Its own privacy and security practices apply.
- Event, social-media, mapping, video, or other linked services may collect information under their own policies.
3. How we use information
We may use information to:
- operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site;
- respond to questions and provide information about services, training, volunteering, events, and donations;
- administer organizational records, acknowledgments, registrations, and supporter communications;
- detect or prevent misuse, fraud, security incidents, or technical problems; and
- comply with applicable law, legal process, grant or audit requirements, and legitimate organizational obligations.
4. When we may share information
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose limited information:
- to service providers that help us host, secure, maintain, communicate, process donations, or administer programs, subject to appropriate obligations;
- when you ask or authorize us to do so;
- when reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, or a lawful government request, or to protect rights, safety, and security; or
- as part of a merger, reorganization, transfer of programs or assets, or similar organizational change, with appropriate protection for the information involved.
Participation in mediation may be subject to separate confidentiality agreements, court rules, statutes, program requirements, or professional obligations. Those protections are not created merely by visiting the Site or sending a general email.
5. Retention and security
We retain information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, to maintain appropriate organizational records, or as required by law. Retention periods vary based on the type of information and the reason it was collected.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information we control. No website, email system, or method of transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your choices
You may contact us to ask about personal information you have provided directly to us and to request a correction or deletion where appropriate and legally permitted. We may need to retain certain records for legal, accounting, grant, safety, or legitimate organizational purposes.
You may manage cookies through your browser settings. Disabling necessary cookies may affect Site functionality. You may opt out of non-essential email communications by using an unsubscribe method provided in the message or by contacting us.
7. Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information online directly from a child under 13. If you believe a child under 13 provided personal information through the Site or by general email, please contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete it. A parent, guardian, or other responsible adult should make inquiries on behalf of a minor.
8. External links
The Site contains links to websites and services we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, security, availability, or privacy practices. Review the privacy notice of a third-party service before providing information to it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our Site, services, providers, or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top will show when the current version took effect. Material changes may also be highlighted on the Site when appropriate.
